The mandate of the World Health Organization (WHO) is to assist their 195 Member States in the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health. While disasters are often unpredictable, the harm they cause can be mitigated or partly prevented. The World Health Organization works closely with Member States and international and national partners to help communities prepare for disasters, deal with their health consequences and mitigate their long‐term effects.
