Vaccines based on the cell surface polysaccharides of pathogenic bacteria are important components in the fight against a range of life-threatening diseases. This chapter discusses how polysaccharide instability influences vaccine integrity and methods to analyse the degradation processes, both in high molecule weight purified polysaccharides and polysaccharide-protein glycoconjugate vaccines.
