This chapter gives on overview of the syntheses of polypyrroles published in the literature since the discovery of this polymer. The work has been organized into two sections emphasizing, respectively, the electrochemical and chemical routes. In addition, similarities between the two approaches have been underlined when existing. This report mainly emphasizes the experimental procedures, and gives numerous detailed examples extracted or adapted from the literature. In addition, a noticeable part of this chapter also refers to the preparation of composites for several applications. Indeed polypyrrole is one of the conducting polymers most involved in composites preparation, and that also found many applications, including especially corrosion protection and nanostructuring.
