In addition to its coenzymatic function in metabolism, vitamin B6 has the potential effect of preventing chronic diseases such as vascular diseases and cancer. Recent evidence from observational studies indicates that vitamin B6 status is highly likely to be associated with vascular diseases, although findings from clinical trials have been limited and inconsistent. Evidence from observational studies indicates a possible association between vitamin B6 status and cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, although no significant protective effect of vitamin B6 has been found in clinical trials.
