Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a useful therapeutic modality for inflammatory acne vulgaris. Various clinical evaluations have been performed which show the effectiveness of both ALA and MAL used in conjunction with blue light, red light, and a variety of other lasers and light sources. This chapter summarizes the etiology of acne vulgaris, some of the more common acne therapies, and the new lasers and light therapies currently being used to treat acne, including PDT.
