The chapter overviews recent achievements in the development of biofuel cells controlled by biomolecular signals and biofuel cells operating in vivo and providing power for the operation of various bioelectronic/biomedical devices. Functional integration of biofuel cells with enzyme-based logic networks allowed for controlling power output by logically processed biomolecular signals. Implanted biofuel cells operating in vivo were interfaced with biomedical and bioelectronics devices to provide power for their operation, while extracting this power directly from biological sources. The paper focuses on the problems in the present technology as well as offers their potential solutions. Lastly, perspectives and future applications of the implanted biofuel cells are also discussed.
