The production of hydrogen and oxygen by electrochemical water splitting reaction has gained significant attention in recent years. This chapter presents the recent advances on the development of efficient electrocatalysts to catalyze hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Particularly, inorganic nanostructured materials developed for the electrocatalysis of HER and OER have been discussed in detail where the synthetic protocol is adopted to produce efficient electrocatalysts based on cobalt, iron, nickel and molybdenum, are highlighted.
