Chapter 4: X β-Diketiminato complexes of groups 3 to 5

This article covers the progress of β-diketiminates as supporting ligands in transition metal complexes from the seminal review published by Lappert et al. in 2002 to the middle of 2013.¹ Due to the tremendous number of reports since 2002 involving this class of ligand, this review focuses on the early transition metals, with elements from groups 3 to 5. β-diketiminate ligands are sterically demanding and thus stabilise highly reactive metal environments engendering both low-coordinate and multiply-bonded motifs. Recent publications also demonstrate the utility of this ligand class to build early transition catalysts with unique and interesting reactivity.
