MBDC Cradle to Cradle® Product Evaluation and Certification Program

Cradle to Cradle® is a design philosophy created by Michael Braungart and William McDonough, two pioneers merging intentional design, chemistry and products for industry. In essence, Cradle to Cradle is about intentional design using Nature as a guide with all materials seen as nutrients for either the technical or biological metabolism, thus eliminating the concept of waste as everything becomes food for another system. Products designed according to this paradigm not only utilize materials that are safe for human and ecological systems, but also utilize manufacturing processes that maximize the use of clean, renewable energy while maintaining, or improving, overall water quality and ensuring social fairness for all involved.
