UV-curable coatings have witnessed a fast development during the last several decades. This chapter deals with the concept, components, classification, and development of UV-curable coatings. It begins with an introduction of UV-curable coatings, followed by a general description of UV energy and relevant equipment. The components of UV-curable coatings, i.e. photoinitiator, reactive oligomer, and reactive diluent, are discussed in detail. The mechanisms of free-radical photopolymerization and cationic photopolymerization, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of both methods are described. The evaluations of the cure content are listed and compared. Several specific examples are given in terms of the development and prospects of UV-curable coatings.
