This chapter describes recent progress on the chemistry of compounds bearing single and double bonds between heavier Group 14 elements (Si, Ge, Sn) and chalcogens (S, Se, Te). Two topics on single‐bond compounds, i.e. the synthesis and properties of 5‐ and 6‐coordinate silicon compounds bearing Si–E (E=S, Se, Te) single bonds and the chemistry of compounds containing [ExChy]n– (E=Ge, Sn; Ch=S, Se, Te) anions, are presented. The synthesis and properties of double‐bond compounds reported in recent years are also described.
