The skin is the largest organ of the human body. Its key functions are to cover the internal organs, serve as a barrier to external pathogens and elements, and control haemostasis through thermoregulation and prevention of water loss. Because it is in constant contact with physical, chemical, and biological factors, the skin is susceptible to the development of various benign and malignant tumours. Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), which include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), are the most prevalent human cancers, with numbers exceeding that of all other malignancies combined.
