Sulphur mustard (SM) is a chemical warfare agent that causes severe skin lesions. Previous work has shown that 80% of an applied liquid droplet of SM will vaporise from the skin surface before absorption can occur. There are a number of potential methods to increase the vapour loss of SM from the skin surface (thereby decreasing the dose received by the skin). These include use of an appropriate barrier cream or topical application of compounds that limit partitioning of SM into the skin.
