The chapter seeks to examine the role of the non-governmental life science community in combatting the development, proliferation, and use of chemical weapons. In particular, it focuses on the initiatives and efforts to engage life scientists with the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) and aims to elucidate how these can be modelled in the context of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The chapter further looks into the ways in which life scientists can directly contribute to strengthening the regime against chemical and biological weapons given the increasing integration of biology with chemistry, often described as convergence.
