In this chapter selected aspects of recent developments of 1,2‐dichalcogenolene chemistry are reviewed. In particular, the synthetic proscedures aimed at obtaining the 1,2‐dithiolene, 1,2‐diselenolene, and 1,2‐ditellurolene ligands and their metal complexes with transition and main group metals are discussed, along with the general structural features of these classes of compounds. In the latter part of the chapter, applicative aspects related to electrical, magnetic, and optical properties are concisely outlined.
