Inexpensive and nontoxic oxides exhibit very interesting characteristics that make their incorporation to polymeric matrices as nanoparticles an appropriate methodology to develop new nanocomposites with enhanced behavior. This chapter focuses on novel self-cleaning and self-degradation properties of nanocomposites inferred by the photocatalytic action of the oxides and, describes the effect of nanostructure on the oxide and nanocomposite performance.
