The versatile chemistry of graphene offers new avenues for its functionalization, and through such approaches, graphene-based materials are driving exciting applications in science. In addition to its biocompatibility, graphene is known for its excellent optical, electronic, mechanical, spintronic and other physicochemical features, making them a candidate for a wide array of applications. Present work on graphene materials relates to the exploration of its derivatives and functionalization with different metals, polymers etc. In the current contribution, we have briefly discussed the current status of research on graphene and graphene–metal-based composite materials in different fields like medicine, environment, and energy systematically.
