Corrosion is a highly challenging and damaging phenomenon and therefore various methods of corrosion mitigation have been developed depending upon the nature of the metal and the environment. The use of organic corrosion inhibitors is one of the most popular, economic and effective methods of corrosion prevention. However, recently, nanomaterials and nanocomposite materials have been developed as the most noble and effective alternatives to be used as corrosion inhibitors in place of traditional organic corrosion inhibitors. Because of their high surface area, they provide reasonably high anticorrosive activity. Nanomaterials and nanocomposites are used as corrosion inhibitors in both aqueous and solution phases. This book deals with the anticorrosive effect of nanomaterials and nanocomposites for different metals and alloys.

The book has been divided into various chapters. Chapter 1 is about the basic properties and anticorrosive application of various types of nanomaterials. Chapter 2 includes an introduction to nanocomposites and discusses their synthesis, characterization and application, including their use as corrosion inhibitors. In Chapter 3, the basics of corrosion and corrosion prevention are discussed. The various forms of corrosion and their salient features have also been discussed in this chapter. The anticorrosion effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is discussed in Chapter 4. The salient properties of CNTs in correlation with their corrosion inhibition potential have also been described in this chapter. In Chapters 5 and 6, the properties and corrosion inhibition potential of nanocontainers and carbon dots (CDs) have been described, respectively.

Chapters 7 and 8 are about the anticorrosion effect of metal oxides such as gold, copper, iron and zinc oxides. The mechanism of corrosion inhibition using metal oxides has also been presented. Chapters 9 and 10 describe the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of mesoporous materials and natural fiber-based nanocomposites, respectively. A detailed description on the anticorrosion effect of nanocomposites for steel corrosion is described in Chapter 11. The economics and commercialization of nanomaterials and nanocomposites as corrosion inhibitors are discussed in Chapter 12.

Overall, this book is written for scholars in academia and industry, working in corrosion engineering, materials science and applied chemistry. The editors and contributors are well-known professionals, scientists and researchers from academia and industry. We are very thankful to the authors for their amazing and passionate efforts in the making of this book. We give special thanks to Prof. M. A.
