Powder-filled sachets and stick packs are a niche dosage form in the pharmaceutical industry. They are developed to cover several scenarios when an alternative to a solid dosage form such as a capsule or tablet is preferred and when a pre-made liquid preparation is not feasible, for example due to long-term stability issues. Key to the successful design and manufacture of these powder products is the understanding of the interplay between the formulation, the filling equipment and the packaging. Hence, it is vital to define the final manufacturing train and packaging presentation before commencing product development.
