We are pleased to be able to introduce the 17th volume of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Specialist Periodical Report in Electrochemistry. This volume presents comprehensive and critical reviews of recent progress in various areas of the field, highlighting and going into further detail on certain topics. Bonacin et al. provide an overview of 3D printing for energy conversions. This work is followed by chapters authored by Aiyer and Doyle on microbial fuel cells, and Ogata on multiplexed electrochemical detection of biomarkers in biological samples. Later chapters, written by Adarakatti et al., explore electrochemical energy storage in rechargeable batteries, as well as MXenes and pseudocapacitive electrode materials. The work in this volume is varied and expansive, and other important themes covered include electrochemistry of anode materials in lithium- and sodium-ion batteries, electrospun nanofibers and electrochemistry at additively manufactured electrodes.
