Kazunori Matsuura obtained his PhD from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1996 and then joined the Department of Molecular Design and Engineering at Nagoya University as an Assistant Professor. In 2001, he moved to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kyushu University, where he served as an Associate Professor. Since 2012, he has been working as a Full Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology at Tottori University. Professor Matsuura received the JSPS Prize in 2012, The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work in 2016, and SPSJ Mitsubishi Chemical Award in 2019.

Maxim Ryadnov is the NPL Fellow in biometrology at the National Physical Laboratory, the UK’s National Measurement Institute. He is also a visiting Professor at King’s College London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Biology. Max has authored over 130 high-impact publications, international patents, and books in the areas of biological design, chemistry, physics, and metrology (Bionanodesign, 2009, 2021). His research develops translational metrology for engineering biology and advanced therapies, whilst his work continues promoting science beyond the bench and is regularly covered in industry-oriented magazines and by the mainstream media. Max has founded and chairs a technical working area in synthetic biomaterials in VAMAS, which provides leadership in international standardization to promote the uptake of Engineering biology innovations to industry.
