Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) technology enables the efficient preparation of bioactive compounds through on-chip flow synthesis in microdevices. In this chapter, we provide an overview of device miniaturization, its benefits and challenges. We highlight the potential of LOC technology in both chemical synthesis and biological analysis, explore the principles of flow synthesis, present examples of LOC devices, and highlight the importance of the efficient preparation of such compounds.
