This chapter introduces to the process control community the concept that it is vital to consider sustainable process control in an integrated approach during early process design stages for a sustainable process. Process sustainability has earned an important place alongside production, process design, process control, efficiency, quality and safety in manufacturing priorities. This chapter summarizes recent research activities related to sustainable process control. Several tools are also introduced to fulfil sustainable process control by integrating process control, process design and sustainability.
