In recent years a growing number of nanometric technologies are used in industry, and most of them involve the handling of airborne nanoparticles. Nanoparticles may pose a risk to human health; they are more likely to escape pulmonary clearance via macrophages phagocytosis and to interact directly with biological material. Evaluating the health effect of nanoaerosols requires their collection and placement into a water-based medium in preparation for biological analysis. Nanoparticles collected by current sampling methods, such as filtration and impaction, are not suitable for further biological analysis. The aim of this study is to design and fabricate a wet sampler for collection of insoluble nanoparticles directly into liquid media to make nanoparticle suspensions. The sampler has three advantages in comparison with traditional samplers: (1) effective collection of semi-volatile aerosols; (2) high collection efficiency; and (3) simple structure and low cost.
