This chapter presents a comprehensive overview of different modes of noncovalent interactions between anions and π-acidic naphthalenediimide (NDI) and perylene diimide (PDI) compounds and their applications in (1) transmembrane anion transport, (2) anion fingerprinting on the basis of their intrinsic electronic and solvation properties, (3) anion-induced radical reactions, and (4) sequestration of charge diffuse anions within NDI-based metal–organic frameworks and molecular cages.
