Free-radical polymerization processes in dispersed media are extremely important from an industrial standpoint. In order for reversible-deactivation radical polymerization protocols such as nitroxide-mediated polymerization to be commercially viable, their adaptation to these processes can be a solution. However, major mechanistic features make this translation rather complex. Various methods have been developed in order to circumvent issues related to simultaneous macromolecular and colloidal control and are collated in the present book chapter. Nitroxide-mediated polymerization in miniemulsion, microemulsion, emulsion, dispersion, precipitation, and suspension are all considered, with particular attention paid to providing experimental details.
