Pollution Investigation by Trees (PIT) is an international research program funded by Ademe, the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management. The research program has been established to further test tree-based methods (phytoscreening and dendrochemistry) on well documented sites and new contaminants, and to communicate findings to ensure such methods are readily accessible to potential users. This chapter presents a summary of the science of phytoforensics and dendrochemistry, an introduction to the methodologies used by PIT, and the results of findings from three sites investigated by PIT.
