Underlying the various technologies available for high throughput screening is the need for the organizational resources to make such capabilities available to researchers. Beyond the scientific advances of the past decade, there have been significant improvements in the accessibility of high throughput screening to academic researchers and smaller biotech and startup commercial entities. In this chapter, we will discuss the costs involved in executing a high throughput screen, different ways that funding agencies and organizations have dealt with those costs, and how to approach planning for HTS in a way that ensures success.
