Nearly all cellular functions are governed by an assortment of molecular interactions between intracellular proteins and biomolecules. These binding relationships represent the primary opportunity for therapeutic intervention with synthetic small-molecule modulators. However, few molecular detection techniques allow for the simple, quantitative measurement of protein interactions in the microenvironment where drug action naturally occurs in cells. Here we describe the emerging reporter techniques that allow for the scalable and real time analysis of binding events between interacting proteins or proteins and drug molecules in human cells.
