Superoleophobic materials are much-sought-after materials for many potential applications. Due to the very low surface tension of oils, it is extremely challenging to impede their wetting. In this review, we describe most of the synthesis methods used in the literature to reach superoleophobic properties. After a brief introduction and description of the theoretical principles, subsequent sections are devoted to fabrication techniques including etching, deposition methods, anodization, electrospinning, lithography, and the use of textured substrates.
