Explicit, implicit, and direct singlet-oxygen dosimetry metrics are derived and presented. The relative strengths and weaknesses of each of the techniques are discussed and compared. The difficulties associated with calculating an absolute singlet-oxygen dose (regardless of metric used) are examined. The influence of oxygen concentration on each of the metrics is explored and optical techniques to monitor oxygen concentration in close proximity to the sensitizer are presented. The ramifications of singlet-oxygen quencher depletion for singlet-oxygen dosimetry are also discussed.
