The prognosis of glioblastoma is amongst the worst in oncology today. The treatment of malignant brain tumors represents a current major challenge, and glioblastoma multiforme is the most aggressive form known. Studies of clinical cases have shown that interstitial photodynamic therapy could be proposed as an interesting alternative therapy to surgery. For more than 10 years, we have developed directed photosensitizers in Nancy, France, particularly those with an increased affinity for neuropilin-1. More recently, multifunctional nanoparticles have been developed for improving the strategies of photodynamic therapy targeting, visualization and use in treatment. This article summarizes the main results obtained.
