This chapter describes modern search and discovery tools for the identification of novel and useful enzymes from nature. Of importance are the strategies to develop efficient biocatalysts, from their initial discovery to their application in large-scale processes. Aldoxime dehydratase from bacterial sources is also introduced, and its discovery, characteristics, and use in the synthesis of optically active nitriles are presented.
