Primarily spurred by the interest as replacements for precious metal catalysts, metal carbides have been applied to a wide range of reactions. Whilst they are active for many of the same reactions, it is apparent that metal carbides have properties that differ from their precious metal counterparts. In this chapter, an overview of the application of metal carbides as catalysts for a range of different reactions is presented.
