This chapter provides an overview of the structure of the book. The book is divided into two sections that focus on synthetic approaches to bioactive small molecules (Section 1) and different classes of modified bio(macro)molecules (Section 2). All of the chapters have been designed to be of interest to the chemical biology community as a whole. There is a particular emphasis on how alternative synthetic approaches may be harnessed to reveal new insights into complex biological mechanisms.
