Several natural molecules of dietary origin have protective properties able to counteract many neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). These compounds, known as “nutraceuticals”, act at different biochemical and metabolic levels and there is much evidence showing their neuroprotective properties. Dietary changes, nutritional supplements, functional foods, and nutraceuticals represent promising strategies to prevent or modify the natural history of NDDs. In this chapter, we will discuss the potential role of nutraceuticals in the pathogenesis of NDDs and possible targeting strategies.
