Advanced diffusion-weighted imaging methods use more general gradient waveforms to do diffusion encoding. The complexity of creative encoding strategies poses new challenges to hardware that generates high precision gradient waveforms. This chapter introduces the fundamental components that form the gradient system, discusses the characteristic of gradient field, and introduces a method for generating high precision gradient waveforms.
