Cellulose nanoparticles are at the origin of an important scientific activity, as well as on a fundamental level for their application perspectives. In particular, the incorporation of these nanoparticles within polymers leads to a class of materials called nanocomposites, whose performance far exceeds that of conventional composites. The aim of this chapter is first to provide evidence about the processes used to extract nanocellulose and the different surface modifications used to improve the fibre/matrix adhesion. Then, after presenting the most commonly used processes to manufacture nanocomposite materials, the different factors influencing their mechanical properties are highlighted, followed by a presentation of some advanced nanocellulose materials properties in terms of tensile, compressive, shearing, and impact properties. At the end of the chapter, some applications of cellulose nanoparticle-based advanced materials are discussed. Finally, emphasis is also given to some areas requiring the use of these materials as an application.
