Synthetic efficiency is important for both green chemistry and economic considerations. Step economy synthesis is such a kind of important tool for achieving high synthetic efficiency. Two kinds of step economy synthesis methods, including cascade reactions and multicomponent reactions, are defined in this chapter. Their differences in operation and reaction process are also clarified. Step economy synthesis has intrinsic advantages in terms of efficiency, by being easy in operation, saving energy and effort, and producing minimal amount of waste.
