Chapter 11: Chemistry of Transition Metal Complexes with Group 16 Elements: Transition Metal Complexes with Two Lone Pairs of Electrons on the Coordinating Atom

The synthesis, bonding and properties of metal complexes with ligating Group 16 atoms O and S are discussed in this chapter. Despite the high electronegativity of these elements, M–OR and M–SR complexes show properties more consistent with coordination bonds of covalent character. Typical reactions such as the insertion of small molecules into M–O and M–S bonds, and coupling of thiolate ligands with organic ligands are presented.
