Data migration will be necessary for a number of reasons, even when the application software is not changed from one supplier’s product to another but also when the same CDS application is upgraded from one version to another. Therefore, it is essential to consider the impact of data migration in the following scenarios every time CDS software is upgraded or changed. This chapter will look at data migration from the perspective of the theory and the practice with a case study. Although the case study is the same as the first edition there is little information available in the published literature.
