In this chapter basics of semiconductors, doping, p-n junction, its characteristics and working, properties of different material used, characteristic curves, are discussed. The characteristics of solar cell in dark and daylight situation, photovoltaic effect, temperature dependent electrical efficiency of solar cell are also briefly discussed. Current research on solar cell materials, its efficiency and life time of the cell are presented. For better understanding, solved examples and problems are given in the chapter.
