Precipitation reactions are an interesting and often invaluable application of equilibrium concepts to analytical chemistry. In this chapter a summary of solubility equilibrium chemistry is presented which is contextualised by the following practical activities: standardisation of silver nitrate; determination of the salt content of isotonic sports drinks; analysis of iodised table salt. The chapter concludes with two open-ended investigations: how much salt is in our food and monitoring the hydrolysis of 2-chloro-2-methypropane.
