The application of coordination chemistry to volumetric analysis is a newer approach than the other major classes, largely because it is based on the use of synthetic polydentate ligands such as EDTA. In this chapter a summary of coordination chemistry is presented which is contextualised by the following practical activities: standardisation of EDTA; assessing permanent hardness in tap water; determination of aluminium and magnesium in over-the-counter antacids. The chapter concludes with two open-ended investigations: comparison of the calcium content of dairy products and determining the phosphate content of composts.
