In this chapter, we overview different types of electrochemical devices that either generate or store energy, including fuel cells, batteries, double-layer capacitors and pseudo-capacitors. Their electrochemical signatures and characteristics are described in detail. A few important concepts such as capacity, energy, power and energy quality are introduced.
