Most of the application examples described in this book concern relaxation due to fluctuating dipolar or quadrupolar spin interactions. This chapter describes a peculiar low-frequency proton relaxation phenomenon due to indirect spin–spin couplings between protons and 17O nuclei in 17O-enriched water. Field-cycling NMR relaxometry data are analyzed on the basis of the exchange formalism defined in Chapter 8.
