All of the male chemists discussed so far in this compilation held academic positions at one or more of the famous British universities. They garnered fame and awards, including Nobel prizes for some. This approach does a disservice to those who toiled out of the mainstream. One of these was Kennedy Orton, whose career was spent at University College of North Wales at Bangor. During that time, he had four women chemists undertake research with him: Alice Smith, Frances Burdett, May Leslie, and Phyllis McKie.
