Over the years, there has been a growing interest in developing functional 3D foam-based electrocatalysts (ECs) due to their intrinsic properties such as high specific surface area and large pore volume. Moreover, the synergistically enhanced properties arising from the conjugation of foams with the electrocatalytic features of other grafted species has also contributed to this interest. This chapter provides an overview of the recent progress in metal-based foams for the energy-related reactions HER, OER and OER. Finally, the current challenges and future perspectives to further advance the rational design of high-performance transition metal-based foam electrocatalysts will be also discussed.
