Mesoporous nanoceramics provide ordered porous networks to host and release drugs. In addition to the tailored mesoporous structures, the nanoceramics are stable carriers that can be easily functionalized with chemical and biological entities. In Chapter 6, we describe the design and preparation of nanosystems able to target specific cells and organs and capable of acting in a stimulus-responsive manner. These properties are essential for decreasing the potential toxicity of antitumoral drugs by enhanced selectivity, as well as improving their efficiency when they are released under the application of external or internal stimuli.
