This chapter describes the different components of modern NMR spectrometers. The design of current solenoids is described and likely future developments in magnet design are discussed. The relative advantages and disadvantages of different probe options are also discussed. The section on console design includes a discussion of how many RF channels are needed for routine NMR spectrometers as opposed to those used in more sophisticated research. Finally, two unique sections cover advice on buying an NMR spectrometer and maintenance of the spectrometer.
